Local Dollars, Local Sense
In response to the magnitude of the energy, environmental and economical crisis that strike the United States, the Post Carbon Institute has recently undertaken the production of a series of community resilience guides.
These documents will show how a small movement of engaged citizens, community groups, businesses, and local elected officials is leading the way, realizing innovative and reproducible efforts in order to build resilient and prosper communities.
Four tracks are specifically explored: investment in local economy, strengthening local food security, local production of renewable energy and local planning for an uncertain future.
In the first of these guides, “Local Dollars, Local Sense”, Michael H. Shuman shows how small investors can stimulate local business and build resilient regional economies. This book thus promotes local finance as a powerful tool for social change.
